Does anyone know if the USDA 502 Direct Program is legit?

We received a flier in the mail about the USDA 502 Direct Program and a builder that is willing to build us a house along with this program. Can anyone tell me if this is legit? We've never heard of it before, even though it's a government program. Are there any downfalls to going with this program that we should be aware of?
