How should I react to my parents?

When I was a child I always remembered fond memories of my mom and dad. My dad would take me to the park mostly all the time and we would do a lot of things together. But, since I was 7 it seems like my mom and dad only care about my grades and how well I do in school. They always call me an idiot and a selfish person and compare me to my brother who gets very good grades. I've also been getting my *** whooped with a rubber half of a hose since I was 7. I'm 14 now and I recently have been standing up to my parents. Should I keep on standing up to them? Because all that comes from it seems to be beatings. Asian beatings of course; about grades most of the time.
