Schooling shows-what kind of helmet?

Any conservatively colored helmet is fine for schooling shows. Even for low-level shows, you can just throw on a black helmet cover (velvet or not) if your helmet isn't black. Personally, I don't like the look of velvet helmets and can't imagine them staying clean for very long if it's being used for everyday riding.
