Is the economy is our downfall?

I'm most likely being na�ve or living in a fairy land but what's up with our economy. Raising the debt ceiling. More spending. Why xdomt we just say screw the dollar let's just work to better ourselves. But as for the housing problem why do we have so many homeas people when we have so many ownerless homes.
