One sided love problem with best friend, what should I do now..?

I am in love with my best friend since the past two years. I told him sometime and he replied that he never knew about it and he didn't have the same feelings. He consoled me very well and I promised him, I will never and ever bring this thing in between us as I can't loose him in any case. For a while I was okay but now it seems like, I can't do this anymore. I tried and tried, But I can't be just friend with him. It's not about a switch, which I can just turn off and not feel a thing. It may sound stupid or selfish, But I have decided to ignore him, so that I could get over him. Is this a right decision??
